Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

PhotoNeater is a fully on-device photo management app. This policy explains how the app handles data on your device.

1. Data Controller

This app is operated by the following individual developer, acting as data controller:

  • Brand name: PhotoNeater
  • Contact: ynesconnect@163.com

2. Legal Basis for Processing

This app processes data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) — Reading photo metadata on your device is necessary to provide the cleanup, classification, and compression features you request.
  • Legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — Storing processing results locally to improve performance has minimal privacy impact, as data never leaves your device.

3. Types of Personal Data Processed

This app processes the following types of data (all stored locally on your device):

  • Photo metadata — Creation date, GPS coordinates (if available), file size, resolution.
  • AI processing results — Scene tags, classification labels, face detection results, similarity hashes.
  • App settings — User preferences stored locally.

4. Data Storage and Retention

All data is stored locally on your device (SQLite database) and is never uploaded to any server. Data is retained until you manually delete it or clear app data. You can clear all local data at any time through the app settings.

5. Data Sharing and Transfers

We do not sell or share any of your information. This app does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or data processing services. Please note the following exceptions:

  • Apple frameworks — This app uses Apple's system frameworks (Vision, Photos, etc.). Apple may collect crash reports and anonymous usage data through its platform, subject to Apple's own privacy policy.
  • iCloud Keychain — The app uses iCloud Keychain to sync your manual classification preferences across your Apple devices. This data is end-to-end encrypted by Apple and is only synced between your devices — it cannot be accessed by Apple or any third party.
  • Information you provide voluntarily — If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to share, used solely to respond to your request.

6. Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access (Art. 15) — You have the right to know what personal data we process about you.
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16) — You have the right to correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17) — You have the right to request deletion of your personal data. Since all data is stored on your device, you can clear it directly through the app settings.
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18) — You have the right to request restriction of processing of your personal data.
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20) — You have the right to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object (Art. 21) — You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to lodge a complaint — You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your jurisdiction.

7. Children's Privacy

This app is not directed at children under 16 (some EU member states may lower this to 13), and it does not collect personal information from anyone.

8. Policy Updates

We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
